Important update regarding LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Home Edition software!
In fall 2019, Apple are due to release their latest v10.15 update to the Mac operating system, called Catalina. This update will no longer support 32-bit applications, including Silverlight, on which EV3 Home Edition is built. This means that our current EV3 Home Edition software will no longer work for Mac users who upgrade to Catalina.In light of this move away from Silverlight, the current EV3 Home Edition software will be replaced with a completely new software application featuring a coding language based on Scratch. The new application will be named LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Home. LEGO Education has also decided to replace the current LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Lab software and EV3 Programming App with a completely new app, called LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Classroom.—Release roadmap October 2019 –> Pre-release of new LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Home for macOS
• Limited functionality; no Hero robot missions, no support for Ultrasonic and Gyro sensors, USB connection only, EN-US language only November 2019 –> Full release of new LEGO MINDSTORMS Home for macOS
• Hero robot missions, support for Ultrasonic and Gyro sensors, Bluetooth connection, available in 10 languagesSpring 2020 –> Full release of new LEGO MINDSTORMS Home for Windows 10
• Same functionality as for macOS, available in 10 languages –> Full release of new LEGO MINDSTORMS Home for iOS and Android tablets—What will happen to the current LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Home Edition software?
- From August 2020, we will no longer support the current EV3 Home Edition software for macOS. Users will still be able to download the software on LEGO.com/MINDSTORMS, but we will no longer provide updates and bugfixes.
